charlie
I'm gonna write a little about the movie I just saw. I'll try my best not to spoil anything. I'll do heads ups if I will be going into some potential spoilers.
Before anything, I thought it was funny how Emma Watson tried pretty hard to cover her British accent. She did a pretty good job, only a few slips here and there :)
----
Laughter, heart strings, and teary eyes reminded me once again how much I loved the book. The movie lived up to my expectations. As my friend pointed out, given that Chbosky directed the movie himself, the movie turned out extremely well. Some omitted events from the book were still captured in the main scheme of the film, some in different forms, some in more subtle methods.
Like the book, the movie brought out deeper and more buried scheme of life. It's perhaps not the best representation of high school, but it's a story that hit on many many topics: relationships, love, trauma, loss of loved ones, guilt, the real world, coping, fitting in, friendship, acknowledging feelings, sense of belonging, living in the past, true characters, forgiveness, understanding.
A wallflower sees things, keeps quiet, and understands.
It's not listening to happy songs when you're sad; it's the choice to feel; it's letting happiness come to you; it's the choice to be sensitive; it's choosing reality over dreams; it's knowing letting go is never really letting go.
It's accepting the love we think we deserve.
Charlie is not everyone, and not everyone is a wallflower, either. As the wallflower, Charlie becomes the side of all of us that exists at many points in our lives. He's the person when we feel most invisible, some more often than others.
POTENTIAL SPOILER.
Not everyone has had Charlie's traumatic past, but the idea is that everyone has their own past to deal with, and that one's history has ultimately shaped their person as a whole, whether he has lost many loved ones before or that if she has lived and conquered a disease. Everyone's story is different, and it's only fair to realize those battles out there exist, rather than only your internal quarrels.
Charlie's relationship with Sam is a heartfelt and mutual one. It is worth noting that this is only possible when Sam sees what he been through wasn't just a bad grade in school or a bad friendship. Even though she doesn't know the entire story, it is clear that she knows that her approach needs to be sensitive. Same with Patrick (who is, by the way, my favorite character, both from the book and the movie). The two of them make the almost ideal thoughtful and caring friends one could ask for.
END OF POTENTIAL SPOILER.
The story touches on a very important idea: love is independent of relationships. One fuels on expectations, while the other is the fuel. It's not relationships that we want, but simply love. Relationship itself has no meaning. Friends are not friends if you feel you can't be open with them. The only way to know if they are your friend is to open up slightly and see if they do the same. That's what Charlie does, Sam, and Patrick.
I think without these friends, you can't call other friends your friends.
Like Morrie says, love can flow just between two people, with words or silence.
I want to be able to be able to not talk about anything, heavy or light, to just be there together, and be enough.
I loved it. I absolutely loved it. It's no doubt one of my favorite movies now.

the reason behind reason
This post will be mostly second person, to my friend, D.
I read your message/letter about five hours ago, I think about the time you wrote me because my phone got the message so it rang and buzzed. I thought it was just a Facebook notification, which I normally just ignore/check later. For some reason I decided to check, and it turned out to be your message.
Five hours ago was about 9pm ish. I was on my way to a friend's LAN party. I had a good time, if you're wondering. It is 2:00 AM now, and although I'm pretty tired, I feel I should still write you something, or else it doesn't feel right (and I'd feel like a terrible friend). I'll try to keep it short and continue anything else tomorrow x)
First of all, don't worry about the letters, I'll send you my address for the next semester the moment I go back to school. Actually, thanks for holding them off :)
I'm sorry to hear about all the stress that's looming over your life right now. I agree, changes are scary. I might as well be in your shoe when I was starting college, but I think all the moving and people changing got me used to the idea of "changes" and, you know, I guess anything else just became buffered and damped; that I'm not all that afraid of changes anymore because there's always change and there's nothing I can do about it.
I think what you gotta do is to figure out what you want. You said your friend is afraid of leaving everything behind. Does she want to? If not, she can definitely leave ways to keep in touch with people whom she wants to keep in her life.
Growing apart is perhaps one of my worst fears; to grow apart from someone you used to know (ok, not intended), love, and cherish, only to realize that all of a sudden they're strangers to you, that somehow you don't share something anymore. Then you began to wonder whether it was you who changed, or was it them? Yea, you can keep in touch with them, but proximity doesn't prevent two people from growing apart either. It might be harder for two people who still see and hang out with each other to grow apart than two with distance, but the opposite is just as common. I don't think there's a way to prevent growing apart. Everything (and I mean everything) tests your friendship with someone, whether the two will stay and push it through the rough spots or somehow shatter into hatred or indifference. If your friendship is strong, then there's little to worry about. I mean, who knows? Things can also unexpectedly strengthen or even create a (stronger) bond that you thought you never had (I'll always be grateful...for the people I met, and the bonds that I've strengthened, somehow)
I guess you got a lonely house near the beach...well, it won't be much longer. Plus, solitude gives you time and peace to yourself for thoughts. It's usually healthy. Think positive :) I don't know, but personally I think I unconsciously place people and friends' decisions off into the...abyss, if you will. What I mean by that is that I assume and normalize people's rejection. Yea I know it sounds kinda pessimistic, and maybe it is. But the thing is it makes every little positive gesture a pleasant surprise.
I totally agree with you being excited of moving out and just have a life of your own (well, sort of). I guess I was lucky to have roomed with two good friends back in high school when I first moved out to college. In a sense, nothing had changed with them two as roommates. Change? I don't know if I had prevented some change then, nor was it intentional. Either case, I don't think it would have made much difference. I think my adaptability got trained a bit too well over the years...zzz I just...went with the flow when I couldn't do much. Don't worry too much; worrying never gets anywhere :)
No I have not seen The Black Dahlia, nor read The End of Mr. Y. I can look up the movie and see if I can watch it sometime.
Alright it's 2:40 AM and I should be heading off. Thanks for the message, I was starting to miss you :)
-l.h-
P.S. If you can, sleep earlier, D. It's better for you :)
P.P.S. Ohohohoh, check out this :) *huggg*

elic movie
I watched Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close movie two days ago, and I just decided to write my opinion on it. Spoilers alert?
Overall, I think they made it really well. Yes, there are things that they left out, including the entire story with Oskar's grandma and the renter...basically almost zero content on their history. Idk, there's a certain smoothing sensation to their story, and I guess I'm kinda disappointed that their story isn't told in the movie, but at the same time, including it would just be for completeness's sake. As it wasn't really the major point of the novel.
Thomas Horn played very very well as Oskar, particularly the emotional scenes, including ones with his mother (played by Sandra Bullock, who also did an amazing job). It was clear that Oskar wasn't clear on the idea of love, what it actually means. Every scene was well played by both actors.
I think I'll give it a 93. :3 If you haven't seen/read it, go do so!

post-april fools and the hunger games
Soooo, I think I can safely post what I'm about to post here...and that is that I have changed my birthday on Facebook to today! Sorry for those who went along with it, but like it's for entertainment purposes and I just want to see who I can fool ;)
Anyways, how did my weekend go...
Oh, I just realized that I already blogged about my Friday night. Oh we'll, I shall continue my weekend then.
Saturday, I did absolutely nothing. Well, by nothing I mean all I did was play Ocarina of Time. Yes, I think its worth it and all, but I was just left with the awful feeling of having not done anything. Woke up at 10, couldn't fall back to sleep after getting like only 7 hours of sleep on a weekend, played Zelda, lunch, played more Zelda, dinner then movies until like 1am... yea, my Saturday was greatly non-productive, alright. BUT. I got to see The Hunger Games. Honestly, it was an amazing movie. I'm actually really glad that I didn't just give up after the bus pretty much decided not to come pick us up at the bus stop. The bus is always late =/
Just a heads up, this post...is really long.
I feel like talking about the movie for a little.
***** SPOILER ALERT. DO NOT READ IF YOU DON'T WANT SPOILERS. GO AWAY NAO WHEN YOU STILL CAN. *****
I think the theme of how they have to do the games to remember the rebellion...is silly. I'm pretty sure people would agree, but this is totally a punishment of the past and the Capitol's way of keeping the districts under control and continue their reign. This is at least what I got from the movie since I haven't read the book yet, but I shall very soon and will continue the series. However, though, I agree that it has to tie into life and death to make the theme worthy enough for a "game," otherwise it'd just be absurdly stupid. Since that's the story, and everything with that as a result, it is a very good and strong movie. The actors did absolutely amazing jobs at their roles. Yes, even Rue, for those racist haters out there. She was so prefect for the role, you ignorant readers.
The Capitol...portrayed extremely extravagant and unnecessarily wealthy, I guess all just serves to clarify and reinforce the gap between them and the districts. (Damn I can feel myself wanting the read the book more and more as I talk about the movie xD) Their exaggerated insensitivity kinda annoyed me with all the games, but what can I say, I can totally imagine such an entity. I mean, what to talk about them other than how rich and most of the time annoying they are? And that TV show? I'm a bit sick of that, to be honest.
Why am I anxious to jump to Peeta and Katniss? Because they're awesome? Haha well honestly Katniss is absolutely amazing, too skilled , I say. And you know, idk, when I saw them trying to work together almost at the games, there was so much tension. So much that it was too unnatural and undesired. I also find it annoying how I couldn't feel much emotions from everyone else other than Peeta, Katniss, and Rue...and well, I guess little bits from a few others but that's about it; the others are all about killing and just disgusts me.
OK NOW. I guess I was a bit surprised when Peeta just announced it at the show. Just like that. It was very heart-felt indeed, so I guess it was fine. Katniss got so upset I almost went hey give him a break he knows he has no chance, you or the games. The story progressed with some twists (I was so out-of-this-world depressed when Rue died...) Then there were the two climaxes for me: when they announced that there could be two winners (I WAS SO HAPPY) and afterwards when they heard the disqualifying bang, when Katniss ran to find Peeta. Honestly, that scene was more or less engraved into my mind.
I guess that's it for the movie...I can definitely talk more about it but I think I should do so after I finish the book. Can't wait to read the other books in the series :)
Yea...so I don't know why my heart's pumping so hard right now. Well actually I do; it pumps and jumps like that when there's stuff on my mind. Like a decent number of things, or when I'm feeling alone, or when I feel like I've lost people in my life (which honestly feels like that recently). I guess I surprised myself when I actually was able to concentrate on my lab report earlier today since my heart has been doing this all day.
I don't care about how much it costs now, I'm gonna get a free hugs t-shirt. I said I will do he campaign but still haven't and I'm really annoyed at myself for that.
I don't really feel like doing work anymore. I think I want to go take a walk, for like an hour at least. Those late night walks that I haven't done in a while.
Why isn't it 100 out and pouring?
It'll be ok.
