song of the week #9

Sorry for the late post, but here's the song of the week, Over the Moon by Rosie Thomas. Found this lovely song on an ever-so-wonderful playlist on 8tracks :) Hope you enjoy!

moving perks

Just like any summer, there's always that great possibility that I might move again. And guess what! I'm moving again! I mean this time I'm moving back to my old town Winchester. I'm lucky enough to have boxes available from my old boss. Although moving this piano will be a pain as always. I don't even play it because it's terribly out of tune and I have a keyboard anyways (and I bring it to college). 


On a side note, I also noticed that my family have placed the base of the plasma TV slightly off and towards the back of the TV stand so that only about 70% of the base is actually on the stand, with the back edge of the base hanging off the back. I noticed this when I took apart the table next to the TV stand, and I was rather shocked that they did that because, even though nothing has happened (thank God), this is a terrible idea and should never do that to any TV. I'll make sure of that after we move...sorta, if I have enough time to before I go back to school. 


Since I've moved so much, I guess I will mention some "perks" of relocating all and every single item you own, if you will. 


1) You get to clean out the ENTIRE house. When I said entire, I mean what's inside this box, that box, what's behind this drawer, inside the closet, behind the closet, pretty much under everything that's movable. 


2) You go through the "do I even need this" phase. My brother had boxed up quite a few art supplies that he thought would come in handy in case he has his spontaneous creative moments. Turns out that he had decided to toss out a decent chunk of his "collection." I mean, it all comes down to fewer things to carry over, right? It's all good! Same goes for books, like this (I don't know why) encyclopedia thingy that my dad has. He's recently been intrigued by the amount of information the internet can carry (that's my parents for you). When he found those books he just said, "wow I can Google faster." I have never been more proud. *man tears*


3) You find all the hidden treasures. Well, by treasures I mean more like the unexpected large number of ethernet cables that we own (same goes to coaxial and phone cords). I found my third grade group picture, taken at the basketball court. I don't even remember the people much anymore because that was back in Taiwan and...well, I was in third grade. I don't have the picture scanned yet but when I do, it's coming on here alright :) I'll do an edit.


4) Last but not least, the excitement of moving into a new home. Yea, it's exhausting and tedious, especially when you have so much shit that the presence of "stuff" just demotivates you. Once you pull through and get everything in those Dunkin's boxes, though, that stack of your property gives you a different sense of accomplishment. You also know that they don't have any sorts of junk in them (well, unless you decide that you want to keep some). You get to think, "ohhh, where do I put this," "what color do I paint my room," "we should get new furniture," "what's the view like from my window." 


Anyways, that's all for this post. An edit will follow when I get the picture scanned. 


Ugh I need to study for MCAT too. It's less than a month away now and I haven't finished 3 sections yet. I'm screwed zzz

A few...interesting things happened recently when I was on the road. 


First, last Saturday I was dropping by a friend's house to pick up an umbrella that I left in a friend's car. I was on my way back when a goose popped out of nowhere and was simply chilling in the middle of the road. There wasn't much I could do other than sitting there and kinda just watch it. It just stood there, looking left and right and honks a few times. I don't know if he/she was looking for goslings, but they were surely nowhere to be found in the vicinity. I honked at it twice and it started to walk towards the opposite lane. After about a minute and a half it entered the opposite lane enough for me to drive by. As it reached the center of that lane, though, there was an incoming car. I could see the driver's face that literally went "omg you be kidding me." Troll goose is troll. 


And then yesterday, when I was on my way to pick up my brother from ultimate practice, I took the left out of the apartment entrance and then about 5 seconds later a squirrel appeared out of no where. By the time I saw it the little guy was already inches from my right front wheel. I literally had 0.5 seconds to react, and plus even if I slammed on the breaks I would not have been able to stop the car in that period. And if I did, I would have smeared it more. But yea, the car went "clunk" and it was mushed... >< 


Damnit squirrels please look both sides before crossing the road, please :( 

song of the week #8

Here's a composition by Kyle Landry called Morning Melodies. I just woke up so I think this is a good piece to start off the day.Sounds like a Miyazaki piece but hey, he admits that his riff was inspired by Miyazaki :)  Hope you like it :) 

mixes

If anyone recalls, one of my goals this year is to make more 8tracks mixes. There is currently one mix on my 8tracks right now, called R&R or something. I'll link it right here. In case you haven't give it a shot, I think it's a good mini collection of soothing instrumental pieces :) 


With that goal in mind, though, I've been listening to many different and new songs from other mixes on 8tracks. I don't know if this is common at all, but there are times where I don't want to listen to any songs that I know already; in other words, I'd pick a random mix-same or similar genre, though-on 8tracks and listen through it. I know I'd find most of them new songs. Sometimes, I'm just in the mood to enjoy those unfamiliar songs. The interesting part to the experience is, I usually won't look up a good song even though it was catchy. I'll just revisit the mix another time and listen through all the unfamiliar songs again. 


Normally, though, I pick out amazing songs. I did recently also, actually. Three songs: 

• Light Up the Sky by The Afters
• Found You by Ross Copperman
• The Broken Ones by Dia Frampton 

Oh yea, so your idea of making a mix CD...I might do it, but when school starts back up though :) 


Ayee, I'm hungry. I'm gonna go grab dinner now. I'm hungrier now that I've seen this...

song of the week #7

I got back from NH Sunday and I forgot to post a song of week yesterday. Terribly sorry D: 

Here's an arrangement of Grenade by Bruno Mars performed by Lindsey Stirling, Alex Boye, and Salt Lake Pops Orchestra. A few things first: Lindsey Stirling, if you haven't heard of her, does this choreography violin performance (pretty cool!) Be sure to check out her other videos too, she has a one or two on Skyrim also :D 


Alex Boye, as I have just found out recently, is an amazing singer. Not sure what native language he is speaking (if you know the language, that's pretty cool :D), but it gives the music a totally different style of approach and makes it interesting and exciting. 


Lastly, the Salt Lake Pops. Omg I miss my high school orchestra even more after listening to them. They're an orchestra that (are beginning to?) focus on contemporary music and rewriting them into orchestral pieces for the mass. I think this is an amazing feat and you can even download the arrangements on their site for free! They're amazing :)

floor plan

Ever since my roommate and I started looking at dorms for next year, we always wanted to have a closer location to the academic buildings where our classes would be. They include about two main buildings, ISB (the science building for me) and Isenberg (business for my roommate). Initially the plan was just to have us two in a double again, but the residential area closest to both buildings (NE, still a bit far from Isenberg, though) was out of doubles in matter of days. We looked at SW but it was a lot farther down from ISB, though a lot closer to Isenberg. A lot of my friends were able to secure rooms in NE as our priority number wasn't the greatest, but we eventually decided to jump back to NE and grab a triple instead when another friend agreed to the triple. 


Here's the catch, though. Triple's a triple, and honestly the room is probably longer by roughly 4 feet. If you ask me, that's not a dandy amount of additional space, but at least it's larger, you know? My roommate mentioned that a friend of his had a triple in NE once (in the same building that we will be living, Lewis) and they had to bunk two beds to make any layouts work. 


Now, I really don't want to bunk because freshman year I had my bed bunked and, while it wasn't terrible, I'd rather not have to jump up to pass out. Since no one was able to take a peek at the room or know, with detail, what we'll be working with in terms of furniture and whatnot, I've been trying to find dimensions of the possible furniture and closets and stuff to make a blueprint of the room. This is what I came up with, assuming the dimensions I found are accurate: 


The two blocks with white centers are the closets, the major uncertainty with unknown dimensions. This proved to be the main issue because they essentially shorten the room by an unknown amount. Rather a hassle. 


Anyway, this is what it could look like next year. This layout is one of the few I found to appear spacious and able to fit everything without bunking. The fridge, microwave, and printer would have to be under a bed or two, but that's no biggie.

So I was on tumblr earlier today and I reblogged this picture: 

All of a sudden something clicked in me. I asked myself why did I reblog this picture. Well, because 1) I love this movie and 2) I can relate. Yea, most people reblog/like pictures because they can relate. This is rather normal and typical. But what I didn't realize when I see people (re)post pictures was that those people are probably relating themselves to those pictures as they posted them. 


Yea, it means that some people are alike, and it gives me a better hint of the actual tumblr community.

I simply cannot get enough of this song. I sing this song in the shower almost every time, and the bridge just gives me chills through my soul.
